“Lori West – Varolo Jackpot Winner”
Yes – you heard me right . . . I actually won the jackpot for last week . . . totaling $575!!
Now – that might not seem like a lot to many people – but for a SAHM of 5 kids – it is such a blessing! Let me preface this excitement with the background as to why it’s such a blessing. . . .
Learning to Rest and “Be”
Last week I was challenged to go visit my sister in NYC and just “rest”. For a “to-do”, type-A, planner type of person – this is usually not an easy task. Throw in a fun city like NYC with so much to see – and it was a hard decision to make each day to just rest and “be” instead of “do”ing a bunch of things. But I have felt God challenging me to learn how to just “be” (with Him, in the present moment, etc) instead of always focusing on the “do” (and my never ending to-do list!). We are called human “be”ings and not human “do”ings! 🙂
So – I spent a week just hanging out with my baby sister (12 years younger), letting her make all the decisions, enjoying meeting her friends, doing some reading, sleeping in late, praying and . . . watching my Varolo video commercials – to just see if I could win the jackpot. I even pointed at the jackpot numbers on my screen a few times and declared “You will be mine! I am going to win this jackpot this week!” I didn’t really think I would -but I was exercising my faith . . . . at least trying to. 🙂 I didn’t have enough people in my village to really earn much much (I earned 24 cents!) – but I thought maybe I could win the jackpot or the special contest they were running.
I was amazingly relaxed all week – not stressed – not thinking about the week ahead when I got back to reality – but it was a daily (and sometimes hourly) choice and decision I had to make . . . to just “be”. It felt good – but strange. 🙂
Stretching my Faith
After coming home, last night my husband and I decided to talk about what we wanted to do with the kids for summer break. We threw out a variety of ideas . . . all of which cost money . . . money that we do not have right now. There is not a lot of wiggle room at this juncture in life – but God always seems to provide.
But, as we sat and talked, I started feeling down about not having money to do anything fun (that I wanted to do) with the kids. I could have easily settled into this negative thinking and hopelessness – but I quickly nipped it in the bud, and instead said out loud “Well -I guess I need to pray in some summer spending money to be able to do these things.” God was going to have to provide! . . . . The mustard seed of faith that came out must have been enough.
In fact – God had actually answered the cry of my heart even before I said it . . . because 5 minutes later I checked my email and there was an email that had been sent 90 minutes earlier!

I casually opened an email from “contact” (wasn’t sure who it was at first) – but soon realized it was from Varolo. They proceeded to tell me that the winner they had chosen had not responded back in time to claim the prize from last Sat – so my name was chosen as the new winner! I had won the $575 weekly jackpot!!! 🙂 I squealed with delight and clapped my hands as I said “I won! I’m a winner! I just won $575!” 🙂 My husband was very surprised! (He then proceeded to ask me for a loan. 🙂 hee,hee)
