Sunday Sip: Psalm 23:4 – You are not alone!

I’m not sure what translation this is – but I think it must be from a kid’s Bible to make it easy to understand.  I love it though!

Many people know Psalm 23 (“The Lord is my shepherd . . . “) and how reassuring and comforting it is.  But sometimes scripture can just seem difficult to understand or fully grasp, especially if you are reading it in an older translation that has a lot of “thee”, “thou” and other outdated words.  If that’s the case for you – then I encourage you to find a translation you can actually understand (or go sneak into your child’s room and borrow theirs to help you understand).

Here is the verse in the NIV:

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You are not alone

No matter what you are going through, struggling with or facing right now . . . you are not alone.  God truly is always there.  Several times in scripture He says “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you.”  Even if you don’t “feel” like He’s there right now . . . He is.  Believe it.  Trust it.  Trust that He is there to comfort you, to guide you, to help you, to protect and love on you – and then press into that love!  He loves doing all those things for His kids!

No matter that the past – Today is a NEW DAY!

I pray that today is a NEW DAY for you!  No matter what you have been through or are going through – choose to believe that God is there, that He loves you unconditionally and immensely, that He wants to help you through this time, and that He has amazing plans for your life. Don’t dwell on the past – but tell yourself “Today is a new day . . . and it’s a good day for [a miracle, to be healed, for financial breakthrough, etc]!”

Also – Instead of asking God “why” in this season (which is a “victim” mentality question.  ie – “Why did this happen?  Why do I have to deal with this?  Why isn’t God answering my prayers? and more) – ask Him “what” or “Who” (which is a more empowering question – and can fill you with hope and purpose).

  • WHAT are you wanting to be for me or teach me in this season?
  • WHO are you wanting to be for me this season?  (my protector, provider, deliverer, healer, comforter, etc)
  • WHAT “upgrade(s)” are you wanting to give me or move me into in this season/difficult situation?  (an upgrade in your faith for finances, for health, for more peace, joy, etc?)
  • In WHAT way do you want me to respond to what I’m going through, dealing with or facing?

You don’t have to face this on your own!

What are you struggling with today that you feel like you are facing “on your own”?
