As a stay-at-home mother of three children with a husband supporting the family on a teacher’s salary, I am always on the hunt to discover new and creative ways to save money. I recently joined Pinterest since one of my close friends told me the networking site featured an endless supply of amazing recipes and I love cooking scrumptious meals for my family.

What is Pinterest?

For those who aren’t familiar with Pinterest, it is an immensely popular virtual photo-sharing tool that allows users to create their own digital pinboards that can be organized by various categories, which may include fashion, fitness and home decor ideas, for example.

Pinterest users, or “pinners” as they are called, can then “pin” relevant images to their boards or “re-pin” images from other users’ boards. Among the most popular content themes that can be observed on Pinterest include beauty, fashion, health, fitness, recipes, arts and crafts, home decor and inspirational items.

While I initially joined Pinterest to find new recipe ideas, I was pleasantly surprised at all the great money-saving ideas available on Pinterest. As the economy faces serious challenges and uncertainties with the potential of layoffs looming, I wanted to share some of these saving strategies I found on Pinterest.

Read on, frugal saver…

Save Money by Creating Homemade Items

Without a doubt, the best way you can utilize Pinterest to save money is by discovering do-it-yourself projects, which this photo-sharing tool is packed with!

I’ve made my own all-natural cleaning products and laundry detergents thanks to ideas I found on Pinterest. One user I’m following even posted a way to make your own baby wipes. I’ve also made homemade deodorants and body washes that smell delightful and are inexpensive and easy to make. A cheap DIY makeup remover idea I found on Pinterest works better than even the most expensive makeup removers on the market. There are also so many inexpensive arts and crafts ideas on Pinterest that are perfect for mother-daughter bonding time. The main point is that Pinterest is loaded with money-saving DIY project ideas.

Follow Coupon Sources

There are several well-established coupon websites that have established a presence on Pinterest. You can follow these coupon sources to find printable coupons and coupon codes that are updated daily. I have found coupons for grocery items, clothing and electronics. This has really help my family save money on a variety of products.

Follow Fellow Frugal Savers

Pinterest is such a nifty tool in that it allows you to connect with and follow other users who happen to share similar tastes and interests as you. You can easily follow other “pinners” who also happen to be interested in discovering money-saving ideas and strategies. One of the users I’m currently following on Pinterest always pins about phenomenal sales that are going on at major retailers, which has helped my family save boatloads of money.

I absolutely love Pinterest and thrifting. The popular photo-sharing tool has helped me discover creative ways to help my family save money. As the nation faces very serious economic challenges and uncertainties, it is more important now than ever before to get creative with finding and adopting money-saving strategies.
